Making Vacations Last

We’re in the heart of summer...and vacation season.

For many couples, vacations are exciting, connecting, and romantic. But after vacation ends, they find themselves back in the groove of everyday life, wondering how to get back the strong connection they felt while away. Whether you just returned from a tropical getaway or a mountain retreat, here are four ways to keep the spark alive after a good vacation.

  1. Have a vacation date night - Plan an evening where you recreate a meal or activity from the trip and reminisce about your time away! Look through photos and videos and talk about the highlights of your trip.

  2. Prioritize quality time - During vacation, you likely enjoyed a lot of quality time together with your partner. Make an effort to continue carving out time to spend together, outside of your typical routines, with date nights and shared activities.

  3. Spice things up - Much of what couples enjoy about vacation is that it allows for novelty in your relationship. Try recreating that when you return home by trying new activities and foods, making sure to explore mutual interests.

  4. Plan your next vacation - Sometimes the anticipation of having something to look forward to is enough to keep the excitement going after your trip. Start planning your next getaway–even if it’s just a local day trip!

Keeping the spark going after vacation requires intentional effort and a commitment to nurturing your relationship. Just having conversations with your partner about what specifically made the vacation so special and connecting will allow you to understand what elements to bring into your daily lives. By prioritizing quality time and open communication, you can continue to build upon the foundation you established during your time away..until the next one!
